So now with the proper guitar picking technique learned in the first of this series of right hand guitar lessons, we’ll continue on with some of these beginner guitar lessons exercises that’ll help cement these techniques into your “physical memory” a must for anyone learning how to play guitar.
Easy Guitar Lessons: Spider Exercise
As stated before, these free guitar lessons will emphasize the right hand, but you’ll still be using the alternating picking technique you learn in previous free guitar lessons: the same down-up-down-up picking.
Starting with A: the first finger, first string, fifth fret
Then A#: second finger, first string, sixth fret
B: third finger, first string, seventh fret
C: fourth finger, first string, eighth fret
Then dropping down (pitch wise) to the second string playing the same pattern, and continue dropping down a string till you have played all six string.

Easy Guitar Lessons: Spider exercise in reverse
The next example in these free guitar lessons in nearly identical to the exercise in the previous guitar lessons, except in reverse. When learning how to play electric guitar, you’ll learn that learning both ascending and descending lines, as taught in these guitar lessons, are equally important.
And, once again, you’ll use the alternating guitar picking technique patterns as used in the previous guitar lessons.
C: fourth finger, sixth string, eighth fret
B: third finger, sixth string, seventh fret
A#: second finger, sixth string, sixth fret
A: the first finger, sixth string, fifth fret
Then moving up a string each time you complete the pattern.

When you learn to play guitar, you’ll soon discover that different musical phrases will require thinking more about one hand than the other.
